Downtown Core

Calgary downtown is a very busy business centre with numerous attractions. The high-density area has many parks, playgrounds, dog parks and greenspaces with walking paths along the Bow River. The Plus 15 pedestrian bridges and walkways cross over the street below for easy indoor walking from one office building to another building regardless of the weather outside, is the largest in North America. The Stephen Avenue Walk is a street closed off to vehicle traffic and is for walking only with restaurants and shops along the street. Many outdoor paths are located throughout the downtown area also. In the downtown area, bike paths link many areas together. The Olympic Plaza Ice-Skating rink is great for family skating in the winter The LRT line goes through the downtown area to all quadrants of Calgary meeting with bus routes all over the city. The Calgary Stampede is the main summer event for downtown bringing tourists from across the country and the world. Other attractions include the Calgary Tower, Bankers Hall, Devonian Gardens, The CORE Shopping Centre, Glenbow Museum, Arts Common, Studio Bell, the Peace Bridge, Fairmont Palliser Hotel, the National Music Centre, Calgary Public Library and Theatre Calgary. A sculpture of a young girl’s head is a specialty feature in the downtown. The area has many shops, restaurants, pubs, bakeries, and cafes to choose from. Prince’s Island Park is made for outdoor enthusiasts with paths and picnic areas. Downtown Calgary is mainly apartment-style living spaces with high-end luxury to lower-end varying prices available to buy or rent.
